Thank you to all those who took the time to visit my work at the Danby Moors Centre, Inspired by Gallery this year!

Also a big thank you to those who bought a few of my pieces!

Unfortunately the gallery had to close until further notice. COVID-19 has put a downer on a lot of peoples plans and events this year but we will come back stronger and I think times like these kind of put things in perspective.

Meanwhile in the days leading up to the lockdown I was able to get out and get some much eagerly awaited captures I had planned up my sleeve this Spring.

The Admiral Von Tromp Shipwreck with the early appearance of the Milkyway provides such a wonderful image if the timing is right and around the new moon. In my opinion this is the best time of year for getting the best composition of the Milkyway. Although not quite seeing the galactic core rise until an hour before sunrise it rises at a 45 degree angle in the north eastern sky and it’s compass direction is naturally out to sea away from most ambient light pollution.

# I must stress to everyone to do their homework first before trying such adventures as the sea is cruel mistress. Tide time research and careful planning is crucial so you can plan safely to make it back to the sands before getting cut off. Set a cut off time to leave and stick to it! It is easy to get carried way as I nearly learned myself in the dark. The water will soon lap up! (*Note the slippery rocks can also be very treacherous)

Saltwick Shipwreck and Milkyway

This was taken around the early hours of Monday morning (the following evening the lockdown was enforced) and I was so glad to have made the most of it. Although it is still a grey area whether we are aloud to roam around under the skies at night do take care and be safe in these uncertain times!

Perhaps enjoy some of the joys of the night sky from your back garden with a telescope or DSLR. This can easily be done by staying home!

Stay safe people!
