Winner of the North York Moors national park, dark skies festival 2018 photo competition
I am self taught astro and landscape photographer. As a gardener by trade during the day I am always close to nature and the surrounding landscapes. Any free time I get I spend working at my most passionate hobby which is available on the very doorstep of the national park. I also like to travel to new places that offer different landscapes and dark skies. I believe photography is not always about the expense or how technical the equipment is but more being in the right place at the right time and the same location can offer infinite possibilities. Many of my images focus on the sky and what is above us. It can sometimes involve antisocial times of day to shoot. I always find it exiting turning up to a new place to shoot (that I have visited during the day) at twilight with nothing but clear skies and a crescent moon setting on the horizon, knowing that your gonna be in for a great night of astrophotography under the stars. When this happens all the your problems and worries go away. You don’t feel sleep deprived or tired but in fact more energised knowing that your going home in the early hours in the morning with great images on the memory card to later edit after catching up on sleep. I have always been fascinated by the night sky!
